John: Have you read the new community service policy? 20 hours every semester?
Amy: Yeah, I saw. I think it's a fantastic idea. Community service can be very fulfilling, and it's a chance for us to give back.
John: I get the giving back part, but it seems like a lot, especially with our academic workload.
Amy: Maybe, but I've done similar work in high school. It's about time management. Plus, it's not just about work; you get to meet people, understand community needs, and even learn new skills.
John: I guess. I just hope the university provides diverse opportunities so I can find something I'm passionate about.
Amy: They said departments would offer guidance. Let's be optimistic; it might turn out to be a great experience!
The question:

Cons: Some of your phrasing might be hard for a listener to follow, primarily due to minor grammatical errors and omissions, such as "Community study initiatives" instead of "Community Service Initiative" and "John it's only matter of time management" which lacks clarity.
Score: 6.5 out of 10
2. Language Use:
Pros: You utilize a range of vocabulary relevant to the topic.
Cons: There are some noticeable grammatical and word choice mistakes. Examples include "The campus has a plan" (should be "The university has announced a plan"), "20 hours serving community" (better phrased as "20 hours of community service"), and "John it's only matter" (should be "John, it's only a matter").
Score: 6 out of 10
3. Topic Development:
Pros: You addressed the central aspects of both the reading and listening passages, and you attempted to highlight the differing views of John and Amy.
Cons: The structure of your response could be more streamlined, especially in distinguishing between the reading passage and the conversation. It might have been better to first summarize the university's announcement and then delve into John's and Amy's perspectives separately for clarity.
Score: 6.5 out of 10

Task 3
Reading Passage:
Photosynthesis is a critical process that allows plants to convert light energy into chemical energy in the form of glucose. This transformation takes place in the chloroplasts, primarily in the leaves. The main ingredients for this process include sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water. When these elements combine in the presence of chlorophyll, the green pigment in plants, oxygen is released as a byproduct. This process not only aids in the growth and sustenance of the plant but also plays a crucial role in maintaining Earth's oxygen levels, making it vital for the survival of all aerobic organisms.
Listening Passage:
Professor: "Building on what you've just read, it's worth noting how photosynthesis can be influenced by environmental factors. For instance, the amount of sunlight a plant receives can directly impact the rate of photosynthesis. In brighter conditions, a plant might produce more glucose."
Student: "So, does that mean plants in shaded areas or during overcast days photosynthesize less?"
Professor: "Exactly! And it's not just light. Temperature too plays a role. Photosynthesis is enzymatic, meaning it's facilitated by enzymes. Very cold or very hot conditions can reduce enzyme activity. This is why plants have optimal temperature ranges."
Student: "And I guess that's why certain plants thrive in specific climates and conditions."
Professor: "Precisely. Water availability is another factor. While plants need water for photosynthesis, too much or too little can be problematic. It's a delicate balance."
The question:
Based on the passage and the conversation, explain how environmental factors like sunlight, temperature, and water availability can influence the rate of photosynthesis in plants.
My Answer transcript:
Photosynthesis is a process on the plants to convert lights carbon dioxide and water into glucose. according to the professor there are three environmental factors that significantly influence the photosynthesis process. the professor mentioned the first about the sunlight, the brighter sun came to the plants and taken by the chlorophyll the glucose will produce more Glucose, conversely plant on the shade area will produce less glucose. Furthermore the professor mentioned about the temperature role, since it's enzyme role, too hot or too cold would be problem. lastly the professor mentioned about the water, water must be balanced to make the photosynthesis going well
Please do Assessment to my speaking TOEFL IBT Practice, based on TOEFL iBT rubrics in scale out of 10 for each rubric (Delivery, Language Use, Topic Development):
1. Delivery:
Pros: Your response is clear enough to be followed and understood.
Cons: There are minor pauses and some phrasing that could be smoother, such as "the brighter sun came to the plants" and "since it's enzyme role".
Score: 7 out of 10
2. Language Use:
Pros: You use vocabulary relevant to the topic and make an effort to vary your sentence structures.
Cons: There are some noticeable grammatical mistakes and unclear phrasings, such as "a process on the plants" (should be "a process in plants"), "convert lights carbon dioxide and water" (missing commas or the word 'and'), and "it's enzyme role" (better as "it's facilitated by enzymes").
Score: 6.5 out of 10
3. Topic Development:
Pros: You manage to touch upon the main aspects from both the reading and listening passages. You correctly identify and discuss the three environmental factors.
Cons: The flow of information could be more organized. For instance, when discussing sunlight, transitioning with phrases like "in contrast" or "on the other hand" before mentioning shaded areas could provide clearer contrast. Also, there was some redundancy with the phrase "glucose will produce more Glucose".
Score: 7 out of 10
Overall: You have provided a coherent response that mostly captures the main points from both the reading and listening passages. However, refining language use and ensuring a clear, organized flow of information will further enhance your answer. Continued practice, with a focus on clear transitions and precise language, should help improve your scores.

Task 4
Listening Passage:
Professor: "Good morning everyone. Today, we'll explore the fascinating journey of human languages and their evolution. What's particularly interesting is how migration has left an indelible mark on the way languages have developed."
"As we know, human beings have always been on the move. Our ancient ancestors migrated out of Africa, settling in different parts of the world. With them, they carried their languages, which over time, evolved and morphed based on new environments and cultures they encountered."
"For instance, let's consider the development of the Romance languages, which include Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Romanian. They all evolved from Latin, the language of the Roman Empire. As the empire expanded, Latin was spread to various parts of Europe. However, after the fall of the Roman Empire, regional variations began to emerge due to the influence of native languages and cultures, eventually leading to the distinct Romance languages we recognize today."
"A more recent example can be seen with the English language. As English-speaking British settlers moved to North America, the language began to develop its own unique characteristics, influenced by the indigenous languages and later by other immigrant groups. This is how American English and British English came to have their own flavors."
"It's essential to understand that migration doesn't just influence vocabulary or accents; it also affects grammar, syntax, and even the sounds of a language. Over time, as people migrate and settle in new areas, their languages often merge and mix with the local languages, leading to new dialects or even entirely new languages."
"In conclusion, migration has been a powerful force in shaping the linguistic map of our world. It's a testament to humanity's adaptability and the fluid nature of communication."
The question:
Explain how migration has influenced the development and diversification of languages, using the examples provided in the lecture.
